In 1955/6 the Statue of
Pope, Saint Pius X was erected. Promotion of the Eucharist
has long been a major feature in the life and work of Carfin,
work that continues to this day. The Statue of Pius X was
placed in the Grotto to highlight and encourage devotion
to the Eucharist, being known as the Pope of the Eucharistic.
He encouraged frequent reception and the possibility for
children of a young age to receive the Body of Christ.
St Pius X
has been positioned between two other saints connected with
youth, St John Bosco, patron of youth, whose Shrine was blessed
in 1935 and St John Baptist de la Salle, patron of all teachers.
The grouping was intended to express the Church’s dedication
toward the young of our community.
