This chapel was one of
the features of the original Grotto.
The niche below The Miriam
Chapel, excavated in 1924, was first used as a Calvary Chapel,
donated by the Congregation of Notre Dame.
Later it was to be the
altar for the Holy Souls, only to become at a later date
a Shrine of the Holy Child Jesus.
Finally the shrine was
to depict the tenth Station of the Cross, as it does to
this day, Jesus lying in the sepulchre.
